Texas Child Support Modification

Texas law allows modification of a previously entered Decree of Divorce, Paternity Decree, and other order regarding the payment of child support. Such modifications are accomplished by taking the child support obligor back to court to make sure the amount of child support still conforms with the guidelines set forth in the Texas Family Code. The Texas Family Code has changed greatly over the years and review of an existing child support order can ascertain whether or not a modification is warranted.

Remember also that obligors are not only responsible for child support but also for providing health insurance coverage for the children as well as being responsible for fifty percent of the uninsured medical cost for the children.

The following chart shows applicable child support percentages based on how many children exist for whom there is an obligation to provide support while the second chart indicates applicable child support percentages for situations when there are other children for whom the child support obligor have a duty of support.
